Custom sensing

Custom optical sensing systems

Evolve Sensing has three decades of experience in stand-off optical measurement, including absorption, reflectance, LIBS and Raman, in mines, smelters, fencelines and conveyor installations. This work is where Evolve started, and it shaped the product line.

Project process

From feasibility to installed units

1

Scope the measurement

The species, the matrix, the required accuracy, the cycle time and how the result is used. This usually takes a thirty-minute call and a sample.

2

Feasibility on your material

Evolve runs the actual sample on its benches and shares the measured spectra, including the results that indicate a difficult measurement.

3

Prototype and evaluate

An instrument on your bench or in your process, integrated with the existing control system.

4

Volume and support

ISO 9001 manufacture, supply stability and continuing engineering support.

Installation examples

Short accounts of installed systems. Each is a measurement that no catalog instrument covered.

LIBS on a coal conveyor

Heavy industry

LIBS on a coal conveyor

Elemental analysis at line speed in an environment of dust, vibration, varying burden depth and no scheduled downtime.

Fenceline gas monitoring

Environmental

Fenceline gas monitoring

Stand-off absorption measurement across a plant boundary, running through the full annual temperature range, day and night.

Gated plasma emission capture

Materials

Gated plasma emission capture

Plasma emission capture with gated timing on a rugged OEM bench, triggered against a pulsed laser.

Engineering capabilities

Optical access, sampling geometry, timing and ruggedization

Most custom projects are problems of optical access, sampling geometry, timing and survival in the installed environment. The spectrometer bench is the established part of the system.

  • Stand-off and non-contact geometries
  • Optical access designed for dust, heat and vibration
  • Triggering and gating against pulsed sources
  • Integration with existing PLC and process control
  • Hardware and software delivered together
  • Prototype through to volume manufacture in one place

Discuss a custom measurement with an engineer

Send the material, the species, the environment and the cycle time. An engineer will assess feasibility and reply promptly, including when the measurement is not feasible.
